Simpson Millar LLP has a long and established history of growing our own talent, many of SM’s former trainees have gone on to become Heads of Department, Partners, Senior Associates and Associates within SM.
We are a progressive, forward thinking, innovative law firm and we are looking for likeminded individuals who want to work together as part of a dynamic team to build the new generation of law firm.
We pride ourselves on operating a fair, transparent and regular intake of trainees from our pool of existing talent. SM only operate an internal process for application for Training Contracts, the Trainee Board sits once per year in June with TC’s starting the following October and April.
The process of application is registration of interest followed by a written application and panel interview.
SM TC’s run over a period of 2 years which we feel allows our Trainees to develop the necessary technical and softer skills which make great Solicitors for the future. As a Trainee at SM you can expect:
- A full Trainee Induction Programme;
- Trainee Mentoring scheme;
- Trainee Forums;
- Trainee Projects;
- Business Development training, experience and opportunities;
- Multi layered supervision;
- Certainty on seat rotations for the duration of the TC;
- Internal and external training courses;
- A bonus structure;
- Competitive Salary;
- Competitive Holiday entitlement;
- Pension contributions;
This coupled with trainee away days, funding for legal research materials and much more.
SM offers two different types of training contract which we feel really allows us to tailor the training to our candidates – we understand that everyone is different and there is no one size fits all, we work in partnership with our Trainees to design a programme which supports the trainee and the business. Broadly speaking, SM offer a traditional seated training contract and a bespoke contract which encourages our Trainees who have already found their preferred and niche area of law to become specialists in their field by the point of qualification.
